Khandaani Shafakhana had a poor start to its box office campaign as it got a cold response from the audience at the ticket counters. The advance booking for the film was very minimal, and the film literally had zero pre-release buzz and interest. 'Khandaani Shafakhana' started its morning shows on a very poor note as a good chunk of its morning shows had to be cancelled as they did not see the minimum number of audience required for a showing. The afternoon and the evening shows were slightly better but nothing remarkable. The overall first day occupancy for the film was around ~10%, and the film collected around an estimated ~0.50 crores on Day 1. 'Khandaani Shafakhana' was the solo Bollywood movie to release this week as 'Jabariya Jodi' which was scheduled to release today was postponed to 9 Aug, but even that hasn't helped the film. The Hollywood release 'Hobbs & Shaw' was clearly the audience choice today.
The filmmakers' attempt to create a buzz through their promotions and marketing have clearly not worked, and even the remix song 'Shehr Ki Ladki' which was shot just to give the film some much needed publicity hasn't worked as well. The first day box office performance of the film shows total disinterest among the audience, and looking at this kind of response, 'Khandaani Shafakhana' is unlikely to show any extravagant growth in the days coming at the box office.
'Khandaani Shafakhana' opened to mixed-to-negative reviews from the critics, and the audience word-of-mouth is leaning towards the negative side, going by the audience reponse samples collected at the cinemas on Day 1.
