Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota works best when it is klutzy and bouncy and light on its feet, and those are the parts which help us go past the flat bits.

Vasan’s rich imagination gives us a roster of memorably kooky characters. Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota is self-aware. Surya who is also the narrator breaks the fourth wall often which adds to the fun.

Vasan Bala’s action film is about fights and villains and the importance of pain. It is an ode to joy.

Though Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota Hai is awash with nods and tributes, it's much too creative and humorous in its treatment of those motifs to be branded the handiwork of a fanboy.

It’s bizarre, brave and excessively whimsical. It’s almost as if director Vasan Bala figured that if one is suspending reality, might as well go the whole hog.
