Laal Kaptaan Critic Reviews & Ratings

Laal Kaptaan’s effect at best is sporadic – there are moments that may hook you, even shock you, but there are also too many scenes that are just laborious.

Saif dons elaborate makeup. Despite his fearless flourishes, the film comes out with flying colours all too rarely.

There are flashes when you feel the film will finally say something important, but then it lapses back into stodgy set-pieces which go on and on.

  • The Hindu | Review By - Namrata Joshi | Rating-NA
All the interesting disparate elements in the film don’t come together well enough to build it into a compelling whole.

  • Scroll | Review By - Nandini Ramnath | Rating-2.5/5
If Laal Kaptaan doesn’t work as an account of slow-burning vengeance, it doesn’t fall into place as a character study either.

  • Mid Day | Review By - Mayank Shekhar | Rating-2/5
And hell, there are way too many scenes to the point that it begins to feel like a stretch, and you merely hope for the movie to get to the point.

It’s debatable whether this story could be told in a more compelling manner or not. But it’s surely one that didn’t warrant the runtime (155 minutes).

Saif Ali Khan’s slow-burning period Western beautifully sets up its period and ambition, only to peter off at the most crucial juncture.

  • News 18 | Review By - Priyanka Sinha Jha | Rating-2.5/5
As far as Hindi films go, Laal Kaptaan treads a path less trodden, but it meanders and spectacularly loses steam.

On the whole, LAAL KAPTAAN is bizarre and a poor film that has nothing substantial to offer the audiences in general.

  • Gulf News | Review By - Manjusha Radhakrishnan | Rating-2/5
Laal Kaptaan seems to be one of those films that may have sounded brilliant and romantic on paper, but couldn’t translate well on the big screen.
