Chhapaak Box Office Notes

Opening Note - 'Chhapaak' took a decent opening at the box office. The film was in a direct clash with a big-budget epic movie, 'Tanhaji', which was released on a wide scale compared to 'Chhapaak'. The film's first day collections are, in fact, in range of what was expected out of it a week before the release. But, two days before the release, because of the controversy due the film's lead actress's visit to an University, created a lot of buzz for the film. In fact, the advance bookings also saw a surge after the controversy. And, just on the night before the release, the film's advance indicated 'Chhapaak' to take an opening of at least 6-7 crores at the box office. The day started well, but the film failed to show any significant growth thereafter, and in fact, the film slightly dropped in the late evening and night shows. The film did well at the multiplexes of the Metros and Tier-1 cities, but the Tier-2s and smaller cities/towns didn't support the film well. The collections at the single screens are pale in comparison to the multiplexes. The opening is decent enough for a small-budgeted niche urban multiplex film with a female lead, but a slightly higher opening of around 6-7 crores would've been better.

Day 2 (Saturday) Collection Note: The film saw around 45% growth on Day 2, the growth mainly coming from the multiplexes of the Metros and Tier-1s. 'Chhapaak' collected around 6.50 crores on its second day, which takes the overall two days box office total to 11 crores. The film should do well on Sunday, and also has to sustain in the weekdays for it to emerge as an hit.

Day 3 (Sunday) Collection Note: 'Chhapaak' did not grow much on Sunday, as it witnessed only around 5-10% growth on Sunday compared to Saturday. The film went flat on Sunday even the at places which were good on the opening day. 'Chhapaak' collected around 7 crores on its third day, which takes the overall 3 days box office total to a decent 18 crores.

Day 4 (Monday) Collection Note: 'Chhapaak' suffered a drop of around 45-50% at the box office on its first Monday vis-à-vis Friday. The film collected around 2.35 crores on Day 4, which takes its 4 days box office total to 20.35 crores. The Monday hold isn't very good, and does not indicate a good trend going into the weekdays. The film might finish its first week at the box office by collecting around 26-27 crore mark.

Day 5 (Tuesday) Collection Note: The film saw a nominal rise in its collections due to holiday in a few states. 'Chhapaak' collected around 2.50 crores on Tuesday, and the film should again hold at the box office tomorrow, because of holiday again in a few states due to Sankranti. The 5 days box office total stands at 22.85 crores.

Day 6 (Wednesday) Collection Note: 'Chhapaak' continued to hold itself at box office by virtue of the holiday in several states. The film again collected 2.50 crores, which is the same amount as yesterday. Ideally, the film should've witnessed growth during the holidays on Day 5 & 6, but only managed to prevent itself from falling. The film is bound to see a fall in its collections tomorrow. 'Chhapaak' has collected around 25.35 crores at the box office till date, and it will finish its first week at the box office at around 27-28 crore mark.

Day 7 (Thursday) Collection Note: 'Chhapaak' had a decent first week at the box office. The film was in a three way clash with 'Tanhaji' and 'Darbar'. In fact, 'Chhapaak' collected better than the Hindi dubbed version of 'Darbar', but that is nothing to boast about as 'Darbar' (Hindi) collections are quite low. 'Chhapaak' collected around 27 crores at the domestic box office in its first week run with mixed word-of-mouth and huge online & social media negativity. There are no big releases this week at the box office, and 'Chhapaak' should be able to put-up decent collections in Week 2.

Day 8 (2nd Friday) Collection Note: 'Chhapaak' suffered a fall on its second Friday at the box office of around 40-45% as compared to Thursday. The film collected approx 1 crore on Day 8, which takes the overall eight days box office total to approx 28 crores.

Day 9 (2nd Saturday) Collection Note: The film witnessed around 45-50% growth on its second Saturday vis-à-vis second Friday. 'Chhapaak' collected around ~1.50 crores on Day-9 taking its nine days total 29.60 crores. The movie can add a similar amount to its overall total on 2nd Sunday, and 'Chhapaak' will be finishing its second weekend at the box office with collections at around the 31 crores mark.

Day 10 (2nd Sunday) Collection Update: 'Chhapaak' collected around ~1.75 crores on its second Sunday, which takes its second weekend total to a decent ~4.25 crores. The film so far has collected around 31.35 crores from its 10 days run at the box office.
