'The Sky Is Pink' is the biographical drama film featuring actors Farhan Akhtar, Priyanka CJ and Zaira Wasim in the lead roles. The film is based on the real life story of an Indian author who died at her young age due to Pulmonary Fibrosis. 'The Sky Is Pink' is scheduled for release on 11th October in India, and is the comeback of actress Priyanka CJ whose last Bollywood film was 'Jai Gangaajal' back in 2016. The film was premiered at the Toronto film festival on 12 September. In this post, we try to analyse the box office prospects of 'The Sky is Pink' and predict the first day box office collection.
'The Sky Is Pink' is the solo Bollywood release this Friday, as the two other movies, 'Lootcase' and 'Laal Kaptaan', which were scheduled to release this week were postponed. 'Laal Kaptaan' is postponed by one week to 18 October, and 'Lootcase' pulled out of the release citing overcrowding at the box office; the release for the film is still unknown and the makers might still be toying with the idea of going direct to digital without a theatrical release. Apart from the Bollywood film 'The Sky Is Pink', the Hollywood film 'Gemini Man' is also releasing this Friday.
The solo release will certainly help the film at the box office, as the movie-goers who might be looking for a new film other than the holdover films that released in the past weeks, might opt for 'The Sky Is Pink'. 'War', which released in the last week, is still going strong at the box office, but it mostly won't affect the box office collections of 'The Sky Is Pink' because of the drastically different target audiences of the two films. Also, the release of 'The Sky Is Pink' will not be a large scale release like 'War' or even 'Dream Girl' and 'Chhichhore'. As, ' The Sky Is Pink' is a pure multiplex film and targets a narrow spectrum of the audience, the release will largely be limited to the multiplexes of the Metros and the Tier-1 cities. And, even though the Hollywood release 'Gemini Man' is also a pure multiplex film, both the films cater to different type of audience, so there won't any significant effect on each other's businesses due to the simultaneous release.

The trailer of the film has evoked a good response, and going by the trailer, the film appears to be an emotional ride with a few light moments, mainly focused on the interpersonal relationships. This is quite a niche subject with a defined target audience. These kind of films usually don't take big openings at the box office, but instead they take sedate starts and grow based on the audience feedback and the good word-of-mouth publicity. The same will pretty much be the case with 'The Sky Is Pink', the opening won't be big, but it can show good growth based on how much it manages to impress its core audience. Going by the current buzz for the film and the opening day responses at the box office for similar films in the past, 'The Sky Is Pink' will probably take an opening of around 2-3 crores; it will be a huge thing for the film if it gets an opening of above 4 crores. The film should definitely be able to build-on its first day numbers even if they turn-out to be below-average, as the film seems to be pretty well-made, well-shot and well-acted. Unless the film gets totally rejected by its audience, 'The Sky Is Pink' will certainly do decent-good business at the box office.
