SMZS Critic Reviews & Ratings

The film isn’t consistent. The script spends too much time focused on the infighting within Aman’s family instead of staying with the leads. Despite that there is enough to enjoy and appreciate here.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan's achievement lies in consistently portraying Kartik and Aman as just a couple, not 'homo' or 'hetero'.

While the first half is engaging, the second half loses its sheen pretty early on and could have been trimmed down by a good 20 minutes.

  • NDTV | Review By - Saibal Chetterjee | Rating-2.5/5
The film may be erratic in parts, but its entertainment quotient is delightfully high for a film tackling a clash between conservatism and freedom, between tradition and modernity.

  • Scroll | Review By - Nandini Ramnath | Rating-4/5
Filled with subversions both major and minor, the film is packed with superbly sketched characters and spot-on performances.

  • The Hindu | Review By - Namrata Joshi | Rating-NA
Hitesh Kewalya makes canny use of popular culture and brings a queer romance into mainstream Hindi cinema.

And despite the good intentions, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, doesn’t manage to replicate it. The blend of social issue with emotion and laughter is clunky.

  • Rediff | Review By - Sukanya Verma | Rating-3.5/5
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan amasses a clutter of complicated issues and sometimes comes across as more messy than meaningful.

  • Mid Day | Review By - Mayank Shekhar | Rating-2/5
A near complete absence of filmmaking chops that render this movie so completely cluttered, close-spaced, almost claustrophobic, meandering all over the frickin' place.

The extent to which this film will influence minds or shape opinion is debatable, but it’s surely a breezy watch.

  • News18 | Review By - Priyanka Sinha Jha | Rating-3.5/5
A film’s cast is instrumental in making the film watchable and the abovementioned do a fine job keeping the audience glued to the screen with their antics.

SHUBH MANGAL ZYADA SAAVDHAN is a decent attempt and makes an interesting comment on homophobia which exists in our country.
